Women’s Health Supplements: Your Daily Five Vitamins
Many women out there know that women have different nutritional needs than men do. We need less protein supplements but they need much more. Women are in charge of doing so many amazing things. And even when we aren’t doing them their body still has higher needs for certain vitamins and minerals that cannot be absorbed solely from their diet. For women of child bearing years, it is said that taking folate, either in a multivitamin or by itself, can increase mental function. They also need an extra helping hand from calcium, vitamin D and iron.
A woman’s needs are really not much different from a man’s, but woman in their child bearing years need more calcium to promote bone health, and vitamin D helps your body absorb the calcium your body takes in. You generally need about 1,000 mg of calcium and 1,000 IU of Vitamin D daily. You can usually get this from a few glasses of low fat milk, or a few servings of cheese. You can also get it from a few glasses of calcium fortified orange juice, especially for those who are intolerant or allergic to dairy.

A woman who experiences the monthly visits from her menstruation may also need added iron in her diet. If your doctor recommends the need for iron, you can increase its absorption into your body by taking it with vitamin C, which is commonly found in orange juice. Just make sure if you do take it with orange juice that it isn’t calcium fortified. Make sure if you do take calcium and iron to take them at least 2 hours apart due to the fact that calcium inhibits the absorption of iron. Your doctor may have you take tests periodically to make sure you are getting the correct amount of vitamins and minerals that your body needs.
